Certified Wilson Instructor

Mary Moore-Phone number: 360-808-7196

At Child and Adolescent Counseling Services of S.E. PA., we believe that children experience a wide range of stressors which impact their daily mental health functioning. A major stressor that children may struggle with are academic demands and as such we have a Certified Wilson Instructor as part of our practice. We are excited to introduce Mary Moore.

I have had the great fortune to teach children for almost 20 years. I have a Master Degree in Social Studies Education, an Elementary Education Certification through Washington State, and two Orton-Gillingham Certifications (Slingerland and Wilson Reading Program). I have taught in the classroom on two coasts and with many diverse learners in very different communities. My experience with students ranges from 1st through 12th grade.

What my wide range of experiences has shown me is that every child who sits before me is a unique learner. Some children come to learning very easily. Others are highly intelligent but distracted. Most children, including my three, are of average intelligence and varying degrees of a work ethic or executive functioning abilities. And then there are those that just hope to coast through, despite everyone’s best efforts and for a multitude of reasons. Regardless of the mix of skills, drive, and abilities, each and every child is different. However, there are some common themes that do arise. One such theme or issue is dyslexia. If your child is struggling with dyslexia or reading/writing issues that revolve around retaining language instruction, I may be able to address those issues.

My tutoring service, READ MOORE TUTORING, provides reading intervention for students in second grade through adulthood who struggle with reading, writing, and spelling. I use the The Wilson Reading System® and Wilson Just Words® which are based on the Orton-Gillingham instructional approach. The Wilson Reading System® directly addresses students’ issues with reading and spelling acquisition using a repetitive and structured multisensory approach. Wilson Just Words® is for students who need less intervention and the program moves at a more rapid pace.
